The Eagles and tight end Dallas Goedert are continuing to kick the can down the road on his future with the team.

A league source confirmed a report from The Athletic that the Eagles and Goedert are pushing the void date on his contract with the Eagles to Monday. The deadline previously was extended from Wednesday to Friday afternoon, but no resolution was reached.

The move allows the Eagles to continue negotiating a new deal with Goedert. If a deal isn’t reached, the Eagles would need to release him, a move that would trigger a dead cap hit of more than $20 million.

The fallout from the Goedert situation will have ripples across the roster, notably when it comes to the potential for star wide receiver A.J. Brown to be moved in a trade. It would be harder for the Eagles to move Brown before June 1 — when the dead cap tied to Brown drops — with Goedert’s dead money on the books.

The Eagles and Goedert have incentive to work out a new deal as free agency drags on. The Eagles signed two tight ends this week — Johnny Mundt and Grant Calcaterra — but still need their top-of-the-depth-chart option, which Goedert would fill.

Other options remain on the market, including former Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku.
