Eagles grades vs. Giants: High marks for the Birds

Running back: A+

Saquon Barkley enacted revenge on his former team with a stellar effort on the ground. He went over the century mark for the third time this season and finished with 176 yards on 17 carries. He also caught two passes for 11 yards. Barkley immediately made his presence felt by steamrolling Giants safety Dane Belton on a short pass even though he was stopped short of converting a third down.

His 55-yard run in the second quarter opened the offensive floodgates for the Eagles. A few plays later, he muscled his way into the end zone for a 3-yard touchdown. Barkley reached a top speed of 21.93 m.p.h. on the long run — the second-fastest for a ballcarrier this season.

The Saquon Barkley revenge win saves Nick Sirianni and the Eagles in Week 7 after a devastating Week 6 ... win?

Just a week after the 91-year-old franchise nearly collapsed under the weight of Nick Sirianni’s taunts, the Eagles rode former Giants star Saquon Barkley and their defense to a season-saving, aesthetically acceptable, 28-3 win.

The Philadelphia region spent seven whole days generally wishing for the demise of their cocky, combustible coach, Nick Sirianni, who clearly deserved it, especially after he’d gone 4-0 in games following a regular-season bye. After all, he’d taken the team to playoff appearances in each of his first three seasons, compiled the 15th-best winning percentage in NFL history (.661), and nearly won Super Bowl LVII, the fourth time the beleaguered Eagles have ever made it that far. Sirianni attracted much attention after his team beat the Browns last week and, afterward, he taunted Eagles fans, who’d booed him at halftime and had intermittently vocalized their wish for his termination.

Sirianni offered a hollow apology, but his players largely defended his antics. They want Sirianni to be authentic, even if that means acting like a high school punk. Whatever it takes, apparently. Sirianni wins. He might be the cause and he might be coincidental, but win he does.

Saquon Barkley and the defense dominate his old team in a 28-3 revenge game win

For the first time since last November, the Eagles are on a winning streak.

Sparked by a series of big plays from their offensive stars, a dominant showing from Saquon Barkley, and a swarming pass rush, the Eagles left MetLife Stadium with a lopsided 28-3 win over the New York Giants to move to 4-2 on the season. It’s the team’s first double-digit win since Week 7 of last year and the second straight game in which Jalen Hurts has avoided committing a turnover.

Eagles use another Tush Push to extend their advantage

Another Tush Push touchdown for Jalen Hurts, and this one is over as Giants fans are heading to the exits here at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants have waved the white flag. They took Daniel Jones out of the game and put in Drew Lock at quarterback.

The Eagles lead 28-3 with 11 minutes left in the game. They have their most rushing yards (252) since Week 2 last season.

Eagles use the Tush Push to extend their lead to 21-3

Nick Sirianni's aggressiveness paid off.

On a third-and-2 from the 5-yard line, Jalen Hurts missed a wide open Saquon Barkley and eventually threw the ball away, bringing up fourth down.

The Eagles left the offense on the field, and Hurts scrambled for a first down. Two play later, Hurts was being shoved over the goal line on a successful "Tush Push."

Eagles lead the Giants, 14-3, at the half

The Eagles have a 14-3 lead at halftime after bending and not breaking on the final Giants drive of the first half.

The Giants got into the red zone and had a touchdown to tight end Theo Johnson, but it was called back after Johnson was called for pushing off of Eagles linebacker Zack Baun. The penalty forced the Giants to kick a field goal to get on the board.

The Eagles have a 157-76 advantage in total net yards. They have 95 yards on the ground, 75 coming from Saquon Barkley, who has one of their two touchdowns.

Jalen Hurts hits A.J. Brown on a score to extend the Eagles' lead

Best thrown by Jalen Hurts all season? It's up there.

On fourth-and-3 from New York's 41-yard line, Hurts stood in the pocket and threw a perfect pass to A.J. Brown in one-on-one coverage against Nick McCloud.

The Eagles extended their lead to 14-0, and, maybe more importantly, they got Saquon Barkley a break, as he took the series off on the sideline.

Guard Mekhi Becton ruled out with concussion

Eagles right guard Mekhi Becton has been ruled out of Sunday's game with a concussion. Tyler Steen is in the game in Becton's place.

The Eagles are now down two starters on the offensive line, with Jordan Mailata (hamstring) going on injured reserve Friday.

Against a tough Giants front that leads the league in sacks, we'll see how this goes.

Saquon Barkley scores against his former team to put the Eagles in front

Saquon Barkley, for now, has the upper hand on those booing Giants fans.

After pushing the Eagles into the red zone with a 55-yard run, Barkley finished a five-play, 74-yard drive with a 3-yard run to put the Eagles on the board.

Barkley has 75 yards on nine carries 21 minutes into his return to MetLife Stadium. The Eagles lead, 7-0.

Eagles offense shutout again in the first quarter; Fred Johnson struggles early

Another first quarter has come and gone without the Eagles scoring points in the first quarter, a streak that is now up to eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Here's what a defensive Nick Sirianni had to say last Sunday about the slow starts:

"We’re going to figure it out," he said. "We’re going to fix it. We’ve known how to score in the past. You guys have a job to do and you’re going to fixate on one thing and say, ‘Oh, they haven’t started fast and turned the ball over.’

Saquon Barkley booed in his return to MetLife Stadium

Saquon Barkley didn't seem to think he was going to be booed as he made his return to MetLife Stadium.

Perhaps he didn't get to know New York sports fans in his six seasons with the Giants.

Barkley was booed heavily as the Eagles took the field for their opening drive and has been booed on every touch so far. He has six yards on two carries and 1 catch for 10 yards, and that reception also featured Barkley running over Giants safety Dane Belton.

Eagles-Giants predictions from The Inquirer and beyond

After skating by the 1-5 Cleveland Browns in an underwhelming 20-16 win, the Eagles are headed to MetLife Stadium to take on Saquon Barkley’s former team, the New York Giants. A.J. Brown delivered in a pivotal moment — icing a close game with Cleveland on a 40-yard reception after the two-minute warning. Now, the Eagles have their eyes locked in on Week 7.

The Birds are currently 3-point favorites over the Giants, who find themselves at the bottom of the division and are coming off of a 17-7 loss in which their offense couldn’t get going against the struggling Bengals.

Will Barkley get a win over his former team? Or will the Giants spoil his return to the Meadowlands? Here’s what the local and national media experts are saying …

Saquon Barkley enters other side of Eagles-Giants rivalry with ‘no hate'

With the Eagles’ first matchup against the Giants since signing Saquon Barkley away from a division rival looming this Sunday, the star running back will soon experience MetLife Stadium from the other side of the rivalry for the first time in his career.

The last few months gave him a preview for the vitriol he might receive from his old team’s fan base. Former Giants running back Tiki Barber posted that Barkley was “dead to us” shortly after he signed his three-year deal worth up to $37.75 million with the Eagles. The scrutiny lingered on, as HBO’s Hard Knocks series televised the key moments of Barkley’s stalemated negotiations from the Giants’ perspective.

Especially because his social media feeds were slow to adjust to his change of scenery, he’s just now seeing fewer posts from Giants fans, angry or otherwise, in place of Eagles content.

Sydney Brown is active for Eagles-Giants

For the first time in nine months, Sydney Brown is expected to return to game action.

The 24-year-old safety has been activated from the physically unable to perform list ahead of the Eagles’ road game on Sunday against the New York Giants. Brown tore his ACL in the 2023 regular-season finale against the Giants at MetLife Stadium and has been working his way back ever since.

Eagles injury report: Dallas Goedert is out; Jordan Mailata placed on IR

The Eagles placed left tackle Jordan Mailata on injured reserve Friday, and he will miss at least the next four games.

Mailata injured his hamstring during the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s win over Cleveland. The left tackle will miss his first game since Week 5 of the 2022 season when the Eagles play the Giants on Sunday. The Eagles will feature their third different offensive line combination in their last three games. Fred Johnson is expected to start at left tackle.

Mailata isn’t the only Eagles player dealing with a hamstring injury. Tight end Dallas Goedert and defensive tackle Byron Young were also ruled out for Sunday’s game with hamstring injuries.
