Eagles add LB Arnold Ebiketie and CB Jonathan Jones

In the aftermath of Jaelan Phillips’ departure for the Carolina Panthers, pass rush help is on the way to Philadelphia.

The Eagles have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with former Atlanta Falcons outside linebacker Arnold Ebiketie, according to ESPN. The deal is reportedly worth up to $7.3 million with $4.3 million guaranteed.

Ebiketie, 27, just finished his rookie contract with the Falcons, the team that selected him No. 38 overall in the 2022 draft out of Penn State. He has primarily served as a rotational player throughout his four-year career in Atlanta, never eclipsing more than 50% of the defensive snaps in any of his four seasons. But he has plenty of pass-rush upside, combining for 16½ sacks in that span, including six sacks in both 2023 and 2024.

The clock is ticking on Dallas Goedert

The Eagles have Friday to come to a deal with tight end Dallas Goedert, otherwise the eight-year veteran will become a costly free agent.

The Birds certainly have incentive to sign Goedert, who the team drafted in the second round of the 2018 draft. If Goedert ends up becoming a free agent, it will trigger about $20.5 million in dead money against the Eagles' cap.

The team also needs a No. 1 tight end like Goedert after re-signing Grant Calcaterra and signing Johnny Mundt, a top blocker.

Howie Roseman told us how free agency would play out. We just weren't listening.

If the airwaves and algorithms are any indication, panic has officially set in. Three of the defensive starters are gone. The superstar wide receiver could soon follow them. Taking their place are a 31-year-old blocking tight end and a reclamation project cornerback. The biggest news the Eagles made on Thursday came in the form of a reported four-year, $14 million contract extension for their punter. And there we were wondering if Nick Sirianni knew he had a punter.

The fan base is alarmed. The talking heads are puzzled. The influencers are twisting themselves in knots to explain why nothing is as it seems.

Bad news, folks. Everything is exactly as it seems. An old friend once said that if it quacks like a duck and acts like a duck, then it probably is a duck. Same goes for a capped-out football team that knows now might be the best time to take its medicine. Which is what the Eagles are.
