Eagles sign quarterback Joe Milton III to 53-man roster, per league source
The Eagles added to their quarterback room with a former SEC quarterback.

The Eagles on Friday signed quarterback Joe Milton III off the Cowboys practice squad, a league source told The Inquirer. He will be added to their 53-man roster.
The news comes one day after the team announced Jalen Hurts was sidelined due to a superficial blood clot in his calf. Tanner McKee will start at quarterback Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
Milton, 26, was Dak Prescott’s backup in Dallas last season and had a strong preseason, tossing 378 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions on 29 of 43 passing. The Cowboys waived him in August ahead of roster cutdowns, while Sam Howell won the backup job in Dallas, before Milton was brought back to the practice squad.
Milton has appeared in five NFL regular season games as a member of the Patriots and Cowboys, completing 37 of 53 passes for 424 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions since entering the league in 2024. The Patriots selected him in the sixth round (193rd overall) of the 2024 NFL draft out of Tennessee.
It’s unclear how long Hurts will be out. The Eagles said in a statement that they’re determining “the appropriate course of treatment” for Hurts.
McKee has two career starts — both coming in Week 18 of the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He struggled at times this summer, throwing 263 yards, one touchdown and one interception in three preseason games. He initially lost the backup quarterback job to Andy Dalton, but regained it following Dalton’s messy performance against the Bears in Week 3. Dalton was released last week.
