Restaurant Details
Illata
Chef-owner Aaron Randi’s 24-seat BYOB, squeezed into a narrow storefront in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood, frequently elicits compliments for its intimate, dinner-party atmosphere. Austere and minimalist but also warm and just the right degree of precious, this pocket bistro is open for dinner only, from Wednesday to Sunday, and the small menu changes regularly. The New York Times named Illata one of the Philadelphia’s best restaurants in 2023, recommending that diners request ample bread to sop up the tasty sauces and reductions. Inquirer critic Craig LaBan is enthusiastic about Illata as well, especially the “focus and playfulness” of chef Randi’s handwork which often involves surprising twists on classic dishes.
