A woman whose bicycle was struck by a vehicle while riding near the Art Museum earlier in the day died Saturday afternoon, Philadelphia police said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was attempting to change from a bike lane on Spring Garden Street to Kelly Drive near 24th Street when a westbound BMW “made contact” with the bike’s back tire, according to police.
The victim was thrown from the bicycle and struck the vehicle’s windshield. The driver remained at the scene.
The woman was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center after the accident, which occurred around 11 a.m., and was pronounced dead about three hours later, police said.
The investigation was continuing Sunday. Police still had not released the identity of the bicyclist.
