Ahead of the MLB trade deadline, one team made a blockbuster trade in what’s considered to be one of the biggest deadline deals in recent memory.
That team wasn’t the Phillies. Instead, it was a team the Phils will most likely have to get through in the postseason.
The Dodgers landing two-time reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal from the Tigers for three minor league prospects, puts Dave Dombrowski in a tough spot.
The Phillies couldn’t put together a package to compete for Skubal, but Dombrowski also has multiple holes to fill and few high-level prospects to cash in with.
The Dodgers traded for Skubal because they could, and it’s blunted the one competitive advantage the Phillies might have against them in a series, writes David Murphy.
However, there’s still time. Dombrowski has till 6 p.m. tonight to fill needs in the lineup and pitching staff. On the eve of the deadline last year, the Phillies completed a massive trade for star closer Jhoan Duran during a rain delay.

Through three days of camp, the battle for the starting safety job has been as intense as advertised. With Cooper DeJean expected to spend a lot of time as the Eagles nickel cornerback, the second safety spot in those formations remains an “open competition.”
