After decade-long hiatus, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic wheeled its way through the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to Manayunk this weekend.
The event, considered as one of the nation’s most storied races, has drawn cycling’s Olympians, national champions, and emerging talents to the city. The course is also a giant chessboard of strategy, aerodynamics, and aerobics.
On Sunday, it saw Italian cyclist Chiara Consonni place first in the women’s classic, and Germany’s Tim Torn Teutenberg won the men’s classic in a thriller.
For spectators, the event offered a unique opportunity in sports to see world-class competitors up close. Biking fans also came together to reminisce on its run from 1985 to 2016 and inspire folks “to go outside and get on the bike.”

The Eagles announced the active roster out of camp Sunday at the 6 p.m. deadline, and they plan to carry four quarterbacks to start the year. All three depth quarterbacks behind Jalen Hurts — Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton, and Cole Payton — made the cut.
However, neither Uar Bernard nor Joshua Weru, products of the International Player Pathway program, made the initial 53. But they could still return to the team.

It wasn’t pretty at first, but Zack Wheeler found a way to battle back on Sunday and only allowed one run as he went on to complete six innings for the first time in over a month. The Phillies secured a 5-2 victory and pulled off the sweep in Anaheim.
However, this series revealed some sloppy baserunning against the Angels. Interim manager Don Mattingly, though, isn’t concerned about it. He says, “That’s going to happen now and then.”
