🦅 Are the Eagles sellers? | Sports Daily Newsletter
And the Union are in a dogfight.

We’ve reached that point in the Eagles season where the conversation isn’t about who could be coming in at the NFL trade deadline, but who on the roster the Birds could acquire some value from.
And while that may seem like a wild thought, seven games into the 2026 season, what’s not is that it could happen, and some names might raise the hairs on your arm.
So our team created Save or Trade, an interactive that allows you to play the role of general manager Howie Roseman and look at if the ball was in your hand, who can’t you live without on this roster and who would you consider sending packing.
And, yes, that includes stars like Saquon Barkley and Zack Baun, as well as seasoned veterans like Landon Dickerson and Dallas Goedert.
Yeah, it’s a wild notion. But it’s also not out of the realm of possibility. So make your pick for each player by swiping the cards and then see where your takes compare to other Inquirer readers.
Today definitely will feel like fall, with clouds expected across the region and temperatures only expected to hit the mid-60s.

The Sixers know they’re leaving food on the table. When it comes to finishing off teams, there’s one key component turning wins into losses like Sunday night against the Detroit Pistons …
Defensive rebounding.
Just over five minutes into the Sixers’ loss on Sunday, that column of the score sheet remained filled with zeroes.
After the game, a joking LeBron described what the Sixers had to do better, paraphrasing a famous description of rebounding from a former teammate of his who was on the Pistons’ bench.
“In the great words of Taurean Prince, who I saw tonight on the bench, a good friend of mine,” James said, “‘the ball is in the air, and you grab the ball, and that’s a rebound.’”
Inquirer writer Chris Hine has more on what the plan is to ensure the Sixers can clean up in that key statistic.
What we’re …
🤔 Wondering: If we could ever be as optimistic about a 2-5 season as Saquon Barkley.
🏈 Debating: How intently should we listen to what the national media thinks of the Eagles and the team’s poor start.
💍 Watching: These fans who got engaged at the Sixers home opener, because why not?
👂🏽 Hearing: That Jaylen Brown never asked for a trade from Boston, much to the opposite of what this Celtics analyst allegedly said.
🏀 Sharing: Big 5 coaching legend Phil Martelli is set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame at St. Joseph’s.
Imagine tying the knot with the one you love surrounded by hundreds of Eagles fans, former Birds defensive end Beau Allen presiding, and organized by Jason Kelce’s brand … in a parking lot at Lincoln Financial Field?
That was Monday for a Chicago couple that traveled to Philly to get hitched courtesy of Kelce’s Garage Beer and True Fan Travel.
Inquirer writer Conor Smith gave us a peek into the proceedings and how it all went down.
It’s wild to think that after a 15-game unbeaten streak, complete with 12 wins in three months, the Union might find themselves scratching and clawing to get a good seed in the MLS playoffs.
Of course, this is moot if the club can win on the road against Nashville SC tonight (8:30 p.m., Apple TV), but it’ll be an uphill climb with several starters out because of injury or infractions against a Nashville team that’s already secured MLS’ Supporters’ Shield and locked up the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
With three games left, here’s insight into the game plan for a club trying not to leave a remarkable run up to chance.

Oct. 28, 1954: A Philadelphia enterprise tried to purchase the Athletics, Philly’s second professional baseball franchise, but Major League Baseball shut it down, starting the path that effectively sent the team to Oakland, Calif., and now Las Vegas in 2028.
“This was bully ball. And it sure felt individually targeted, at least to the naked eye. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott walked to the line and found Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis and Jonathan Greenard (when he was in there), and then he decided where he was going to run the ball. … Later, it was reserve outside linebacker Arnold Ebiketie in the crosshairs. One by one, Dallas ran each of them off the field. When A.J. Epenesa got his turn on the edge, the Cowboys ran him over too. — Murphy takes a look at the nuances that aided the Cowboys’ dismantling of the Birds on Monday Night Football.

What you’re saying about Philly sports
We asked: How does it feel to be a Philly sports fan right now?
As a longtime fan (age 65), the current state of Philadelphia sports teams is a “D.” The Eagles are in a free fall. Nick is a high school coach at best. Sixers signed a player (LeBron) who has more deference to China than the USA. I will never support a team with [LeBron] on the roster. Phillies are a bunch of frat boys laughing all the way to the bank. Flyers, average at best. All in all, I’m not emotionally invested. — Jack D.
As a Philly fan right now, not good, especially after that horrible game played by the Eagles’ defense. Not much about the Eagles whatsoever to be happy about, from the general manager to the coaches to the team. Phillies were a very disappointing team that seriously needs to take a look at how the Brewers and Rays built their teams. Wish Dombrowski was leaving, but as long as Mr. Middleton likes him, it does not matter what we fans think. Sixers and Union will be fine, and the Flyers will improve. Philly fans don’t give up. — Everett S.
Despite the current state of the Eagles this season — it’s still great to be a Philly sports fan. The Sixers have moved all of the chips to the center of the table to challenge for Philly’s first NBA Title since 1983. The Phillies are also a playoff team, and the Flyers are just starting to gain momentum with plenty of season remaining. And even though this season may be a loss — we still are witnessing one of the best decades in Eagles’ history with two Super Bowl wins in eight seasons. — Michael L.
