Rubio rakes in $ on Pa. swing

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, is slated to raise at least $520,000 in a two-day Pennsylvania trip organized by Bob Asher, the state GOP's national committeeman.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio arrives in Philadelphia Thursday to begin a 30-hour cross-state fundraising blitz that sources say has already raised about $520,000 for the Republican presidential candidate.

Rubio is scheduled to attend a breakfast with leaders of the Indian-American community, a fundraising lunch at the Union League, a private reception hosted by power lawyer Charles Kopp in Rittenhouse Square, then another reception at the Valley Forge Crowne Plaza Hotel. He will close the day speaking to the fall dinner of the Chester County Republican Committee.

On Friday, Rubio has breakfast and lunch events scheduled in Pittsburgh.

Pennsylvania Republican National Committeeman Bob Asher of Montgomery County has become Rubio's point man in the state, putting together fundraisers and meet-and-greets with his vast network.

"Sen. Rubio would be the strongest in the general election because of his appeal to young people and minorities, which we need for the future of the party," Kopp said.
