WASHINGTON -- Cory Booker raised $4.6 million for his Senate campaign in April, May and June, according to his campaign, a huge haul could vault him well ahead of all other candidates in the push for campaign dollars.
Booker, the Democratic mayor of Newark, ended the quarter with $4.5 million cash on hand.
Other candidates have not yet released their latest fund-raising amounts, but Booker began the quarter ahead of everyone except U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, a Shore-area Democrat who had $3.7 million on hand at the end of March.
“The continued support we’re seeing is testament to the faith voters are putting in Mayor Booker’s ability to bring people together in Washington and get things done to improve people’s lives,” said Booker campaign manager Addisu Demissie. “Every donation is critical for taking the mayor’s message directly to voters in this unprecedented special election.”
Booker raised $1.9 million in the first three months of the year. He has taken in $6.5 million since January, allowing him to be the only candidate so far run ads on statewide television.
In the last three months Booker received contributions from 2,027 New Jersey residents and more than 7,000 contributions overall, according to his campaign. More than 6,000 donors were first-time contributors.
Booker is running in the Democratic primary against Pallone, U.S. Rep. Rush Holt and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver. Formor Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan and doctor Alieta Eck are competing in the Republican primary.
