Philadelphia Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown and Deputy Mayor Don Schwarz will be present at a 9:30 a.m. event in which the city's menu labeling bill will be signed into law.

The measure, which will take effect in January 1, 2010, will require all chain restaurants with 15 or more locations to display the nutrional content of the food on the menu. Information must be provided on calories, fat and tansfat, carbohydates and sodium for food and beverages.

The measure was passed by City Council on Nov. 6. Currently a similar bill is in place in New York City and a measure is being considered in California.

Philadelphia's law will be signed at Temple University's Center for Obesity Research and Education on North Broad Street.
