The Philadelphia City Planning Commission will hear -- not a detailed plan -- but a general proposal from Foxwoods for its planned casino at the Gallery in Center City, among other proposals at its Tuesday Oct. 21 meeting, 1 pm, Academy of Natural Sciences auditorium (NOT the usual location.)

Planners will also review Councilman Frank DiCicco's rezoning proposals for the casino, which is backed by Mayor Nutter and Gallery owner Pennsylvania REIT, but opposed by some Chinatown neighbors, who say putting a casino in an Asian neighborhood is like opening a saloon on an Indian reservation (except that the latter is typically illegal.)

Also on tap:zoning changes for the 1500 block of Arch St.; Bart Blatstein's Tower Investments' plans for the old Schmidt's Brewery site at 3rd and Girard; a move to keep telemarketing companies off Passyunk Ave.; and 14 separate street closings, rezonings, utility right-of-way abandonments, and other "routine" items that the neighbors in parts of South Philadelphia, Center City, and several other neighborhoods that people who live or run businesses nearby might want ot know more about.
