Sunoco moving HQ to Newtown Sq from airport

Will also consolidate Center City workers at Ellis site

Sunoco Inc. is moving chief executive Robert Owens' office and other headquarters functions from their current leased space in the Airport Business Complex, Lester, Tinicum Township, across Delaware County to two buildings the energy company has purchased at the Ellis Preserve development in Newtown Square.

Sunoco will move 340 top management and marketing staff from Lester as it renovates the Ellis buildings over the next two years, plus 120 legal, accounting and other administrative staff from its offices at Mellon Bank Center, 1735 Market St., Philadelphia. When the move is done Sunoco expects about 500 people will work at the consollidated Newtown Square headquarters, says Sunoco spokesman Jeff Shields. The Ellis property, which borders SAP Americas' headquarters and was formerly home to Arco Chemical and Lyondell Chemical, is owned by Equus Capital Partners, which plans to develop additional acreage at the onetime girls' school.

Sunoco Logistics headquarters will remain at 1818 Market St., Philadelphia.

UPDATE: If you check the electronic all-tenant index at Mellon Bank Center, 1735 Market St., Sunoco is not listed, even though the company is nominally based in Suite LL at that address for legal reporting purposes, used to maintain extensive offices there, and still has lawyers and accountants in its remaining offices upstairs.
