Wood's Blackshear latest to commit to Temple football
A second Southeastern, Pa., high school football player said this week he is going to Temple in the fall of 2017.
On Friday, Archbishop Wood receiver/slot Raheem Blackshear announced on Twitter that he has committed to the Owls.
"He really liked Temple and coach (Matt) Rhule and wanted to stay close to home," Archbishop Wood coach Steve Devlin said of Blackshear.
Blackshear will be reunited with his former quarterback Anthony Russo, who is entering his freshman season at Temple.
The service academies and Syracuse were among the schools that were interested in Blackshear, according to Devlin.
The 5-foot-11, 171-pound Blackshear was used as both a slot back and running back, accounting for more than 1,100 total yards and 22 touchdowns.
Reid played mainly receiver for Abington, but says he was recruited by Temple to be a safety.
"I liked Temple, it was close to home and it is an up and coming program with a great coaching staff," Reid said.
Since the offseason, Reid has spent time in the weight room. Abington coach Kevin Conlin says he has put on about 25 pounds. Reid is now 6 -1 1/2 and 185 pounds.
"He is so much bigger and stronger and you can see the difference," Conlin said.
Reid, who says several Football Championship Subdivision schools had shown interest, attended Temple's camp on June 11.
"It was a great experience and I feel I did well there," he said. "Now I'm excited about going to Temple."
