'Ghost' injury not serious; Flyers host Isles
From Manayunk to Medford, there was a collective sigh of relief from Flyers fans Saturday when the team announced that rookie phenom Shayne Gostisbehere's injury was not serious.
Officially, he is listed as day to day, and coach Dave Hakstol did not rule out him playing on Wednesday against visiting Boston.
Gostisbehere, who appeared to injure his right knee inWednesday's 4-3 OT win in Minnesota, leads NHL rookie defensemen with seven goals. He will not play in Saturday's matinee against the visiting Islanders.
With Gostisbehere, the Flyers are 12-7-4 and averaging 2.5 goals per game. Without him, they are 5-8-3 and averaging 1.8 goals per game.
With the player they call "Ghost" out of the lineup, Mark Streit will quarterback the first power-play unit in Saturday's 1 p.m. game.
Recently acquired center Jordan Weal will not play Saturday. Hakstol said he didn't want to change the lineup because the team played well in Minnesota, and he added he wants Weal to get a few more practices in with his new team.
Steve Mason and the Isles Jaroslav Halak are the expected goalies.
If the Flyers are going to make a playoff push, now is the time. Their next 10 games are against Eastern Conference rivals.
