Flyers drop new clue, announce reveal date for ‘Hometown Remix’ jerseys, which could break with tradition

The team's long-anticipated new uniforms, which are expected to have Liberty Bell elements, will be released on Monday, one day before the team debuts them on the ice against the Minnesota Wild.

It’s been a little over two months since we learned that the Flyers — and each of the other 31 NHL teams — will be debuting a new “Hometown Remix” uniform during the 2026-27 season.

Since then, there has been no shortage of purported online “leaks,” AI-altered pictures, and mock-ups of what those jerseys and helmets might look like. The wait for the truth ends Monday.

The Flyers announced Thursday via X that they will reveal their Hometown Remix uniforms on Monday morning, one day before they are set to debut them on the ice against the Minnesota Wild at Xfinity Mobile Arena (7 p.m., NBCSP). The special edition jersey-and-helmet combo will be worn 13 times over the team’s final 68 games this season.

The post included another potential clue about the new look, which Fanatics designed to “uniquely and authentically celebrate the fans, city, and local culture of each team,” by putting the release date over a picture of the Liberty Bell. The Flyers also released a link for fans to register for first access to purchase what they are calling their “Independence Edition” jerseys at 10 a.m. on Monday.

The NHL and Fanatics’ Hometown Remix collaboration follows similar efforts by the NFL (“Rivalries”), MLB (“City Connect”), NBA (“City Edition”), and MLS (“Heritage”), to highlight local landmarks, history, or traditions in the team’s alternate uniforms.

The latest clue comes just over a week after the Flyers tweeted a series of numbers in a cryptic social media post relating to the Hometown Remix jerseys. The sequence of numbers, which was written on three separate lines, read as follows: “20-8-5, 2-5-12-12, 20-15-12-12-19.” When you match those numbers with the corresponding letters of the alphabet, it spells out “The Bell Tolls.”

That was not the first Liberty Bell easter egg that the team has dropped on social media either. Ahead of the NHL draft in late June, the Flyers posted a picture of their “war room” in Atlantic City, which included a floor mat that featured a black Liberty Bell with bright orange accents. While it remains to be seen if that logo makes it onto the jerseys, it certainly would fit with the Liberty Bell theme, especially with 2026 being the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

In addition to Liberty Bell elements, including some scuttlebutt about cracked numbers, there is widespread speculation that the jersey’s primary color will be a dark gray. If that is the case, that would mark some history, as the Flyers have never had a jersey with a primary color other than white, black, or orange.

The Flyers (3-8-4) will hope the new look leads to improved results on the ice, as the team has lost 12 of its first 15 games and is mired in a three-game skid entering Sunday’s home tilt against Utah. How’s that old saying go: Look good, play good?
