Alas, Cata Raisbeck picked the coldest day of the season to open her Drexel University location of Yogorino, the Italian-rooted frozen dessertery. It's at Chestnut Square, on Chestnut Street near 32d Street - near the new Joe Coffee and Shake Shack.
But here's a heartwarming deal: She's giving away free desserts from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Tuesday, Nov. 12). On Thursday, it's buy one, get one free.
Raisbeck, a Colombian-born, Italian-and Vermont-educated entrepreneur, opened her first Yogorino shop in 2009 at 20th and Locust Streets.
Don't go searching for teeth-chattering sweetness. The single-flavor yogurt, made from organic ingredients and six strains of probiotic, contains no high fructose corn syrup. Toppings are available.
This location also has 12 flavors of gelato - similarly flavorful but not too sweet.
Hours are still shaking out, but figure on midday through at least the dinner hours.
