The Philadelphia Folklore Project will present two genres of percussive dance, jazz tap and flamenco, on Saturday at Painted Bride Art Center (230 Vine St.). The show will give audiences a view of the intricate and dazzling footwork and the interplay of set choreography and improvisation from two companies: Germaine Ingram & Ensemble and Flamenco del Encuentro. The Ingram ensemble will premiere a work danced to a composition by jazz great Tyrone Brown. Flamenco del Encuentro will showcase new work by renowned choreographer Inmaculada Ortega and will feature guest dancer Antonio Hidalgo from Spain. The show ends with a Q & A with the artists. Healthy minds

"Breaking the Silence: A Summit on Behavioral (Mental) Health within the African American Community" is scheduled today and Saturday at the Convention Center (12th and Arch Streets). Organizers call it a groundbreaking local effort to provide information, education and resources on this important issue. Among the presenters are author Michael Eric Dyson; physician and minister Therman Evans; author Jawanza Kunjufu; actress Jenifer Lewis, psychiatrist Alvin Poussaint; psychologist Robin L. Romp like a reindeer

The 10th Annual Reindeer Romp 5K Fun Run/Walk, with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday. The 5K run/1.5-mile walk goes on rain or shine and is expected to draw more than 950 participants. It is held in memory of Brandon Lake, a Havertown boy who lost his fight with cancer nine years ago at the age of 4. The annual event sponsored by Nolan Painting Inc. has raised more than $130,000 for local cancer patient services, education and research. Registration is from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at Oakmont Elementary School (Darby and Eagle Roads, Havertown). The run will begin at 3 p.m. and the walk five minutes later. Nice for doggies

Two days of unusual gifts, health-care services, a flea-less market and professional pet portraits are part of the third annual BarketPlace and Doggie Health Fair on Saturday and Sunday at Y2K9s Dog Sports Club (1000 E. Mermaid Lane, between Stenton and Cheltenham Avenues, Wyndmoor). Proceeds from sales and donations benefit the National Canine Cancer Foundation.
