More than 1,000 reenactors were converging this weekend at Neshaminy State Park in Bensalem for the largest Civil War reenactment on the East Coast outside of Gettysburg's. The theme for this year's reenactment was "Spring 1862 Campaign," featuring Saturday's First Battle of Kernstown, Va., and Sunday's First Battle of Winchester, Va.
The weekend also showcased camp life scenarios, military and civilian life demonstrations, and a band specializing in Civil War-era music. Above, Jayden MacFarland, 3, watches reenactors on horseback, while at left, members of a Philadelphia brigade of the Union Army prepare to drill. Events are free, with donations going to support battlefield preservation efforts.
