A man was shot to death outside his house Wednesday afternoon in the Crestmont section of Abington Township, police said.

The 73-year-old man was killed about 1:50 on the porch of his home on Prospect Avenue, about a mile from Willow Grove Park mall, authorities said.
Witnesses told police the gunman drove away in a silver Dodge minivan. Minutes later, officers stopped a vehicle matching the description in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue, a few blocks away.
The driver "refused to show his hands," Deputy Chief John A. Livingood said Wednesday afternoon. "And at one point he pulled out a gun, and he apparently shot himself."
Police fired no shots, Livingood said.
The suspected gunman and the victim were taken to Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health. The suspect was in critical condition late Wednesday. An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for Thursday.
