Police are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man who was shot by several gunmen in Philadelphia's Franklinville section.

Philadelphia police said officers were called to the 3400 block of North 8th Street about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday for a report of gunshots.

They found the man in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, police said.

The victim, whose name was not released Wednesday morning because his family was still being notified, was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he died at 12:08 a.m.

Police said the motive for the killing wasn't known.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters at the scene that four shooters were seen entering a white minivan that was parked on 8th Street near Ontario just after the gunfire. No description of the assailants was available.
