Mary DiSabato; headed N.J. State Parole Board

Mary Keating DiSabato, 88, of Pennsauken, chairwoman of the New Jersey State Parole Board from 1993 to 1998, died of complications from cancer Friday, Oct. 21, at home.

Born in Camden, Mrs. DiSabato graduated from Camden High School in 1946 and served as a Sixth District Assemblywoman, covering parts of Camden and Burlington Counties from 1974 to 1980, son Stephen Croce said.

She was vice president of the Merchantville Women's Club for the last 10 years, and was a member of the Camden County Democratic Committee from the 1960s to the 1990s, her son said.

Mrs. DiSabato was also a member of Order Sons of Italy in America.

Besides her son, she is survived by her husband, Sonny; another son, Remo X. Croce; stepson Anthony DiSabato; daughters Denise Neri, Elyssa Palmisano, Mary Mazzochette, and Rita Tahenakos; a brother; a sister; 18 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her former husband, Remo M. Croce.

Viewings were set from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, and 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, both at Platt Memorial Chapels, 2001 Berlin Rd., Cherry Hill, before a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Peter's Church, 43 W. Maple Ave., Merchantville. Interment is private.
