Lions' Lucas on watch list

Penn State's Alex Bentleys and junior guard Maggie Lucas of Narberth have been named to the Naismith Women's Award top 30 watch list.

Penn State's Alex Bentleys and junior guard Maggie Lucas of Narberth have been named to the Naismith Women's Award top 30 watch list.

The Naismith award is given to the nation's top female collegiate basketball player. Bentley and Lucas are two of six Big Ten players on the list, joining Ohio State's Tayler Hill, Nebraska's Jordan Hooper and Lindsey Moore and Illinois' Karisma Penn.

Swimming. The College of New Jersey men's swimming team captured several awards given by the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

Senior Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill) was named swimmer of the year, Brian Bishop was named coach of the year, and freshman James Shangle was selected rookie of the year.

Four Swarthmore College women's swimmers were named to the all-Centennial Conference team. Junior Rebecca Teng, sophomores Supriya Davis and Kate Wiseman, and freshman Nikkia Miller were named to the first team. Sophomore Erin Lowe joined Davis, Wiseman, and Miller as honorable mentions in the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Softball. Lycoming College team was selected to finish eighth in the Commonwealth Conference preseason coaches' poll.

Perennial league contender Lebanon Valley earned eight first-place votes to top the poll. Messiah finished second with 72 points, and Alvernia, the defending league champion, was third with 68.
