Bob Hennefer named golf professional of the year by Philadelphia PGA

The Philadelphia Section announced its awards for a number of area professionals.

Bob Hennefer of Indian Spring Golf Club in Marlton, N.J., has been named 2017 golf professional of the year by the Philadelphia Section PGA.

Other prominent honors announced by the section were John Dunigan of White Manor as teacher of the year, Dan Mrozinski of Commonwealth National as assistant professional of the year, Gerry Davis of Flourtown with the player development award and Dave Zimmaro of Overbrook with the youth player development award.

Special awards went to Eric Handley of Penn State, the Horton Smith Award for contributions to developing professional educational opportunities for golf professionals; Tom Gilbert of Gulph Mills, the Bill Strausbaugh Award for character and leadership in mentoring fellow pros, and John Carpineta of Bensalem Township, the Patriots Award for his commitment to those who serve or have served in the military.

Patrick Shine of Commonwealth National was named merchandiser of the year for private courses.
