The Union's goalkeeper carousel will officially feature one fewer participant this season. The club announced Tuesday that it loaned Zac MacMath to the Colorado Rapids.

In return, the Union received the Rapids' lowest second-round pick in the Jan. 15 SuperDraft, at this point the 41st overall selection.

If the Rapids were to keep MacMath permanently, they would send the Union their best first-round pick for next season.

With two months before the March 7 season opener - ironically enough against Colorado at PPL Park - Rais Mbolhi and Andre Blake are the Union's goalkeepers.

Mbolhi, the 28-year-old Algerian World Cup veteran the team acquired last summer, is the favorite to start. It's still possible that Blake, the top overall pick in last year's draft, is also loaned out in order for the 24-year-old Jamaican to garner more playing time.

It was long speculated that MacMath, 23, would be moved this offseason via trade or in last month's expansion draft.

After the Union made him the fifth overall pick of the 2011 draft, he spent four seasons with the Union, most of the last three as the starter.

In 103 league games (102 starts), MacMath allowed 140 goals and posted a 34-39-29 record. He was 9-10-10 last season.
