Wings eliminated from NLL playoffs

Much like their season in a whole, the Wings' first playoff game in four years proved to be a series of starts and stops and, in the end, disappointment.

The Wings started strong Friday night in Rochester, N.Y., but couldn't stem the tide once adversity hit, falling to the Knighthawks, 14-13, in the first round of the single-elimination NLL playoffs.

The Wings dropped their final six games to finish their once-promising season at 7-9. They lost all four of their meetings with Rochester this season.

The team appeared to right the ship early on Friday night, jumping out to a 4-2 lead before Rochester scored nine out of the next 10 goals to take a lead it would never relinquish. The Wings mounted a furious challenge in the fourth quarter – scoring seven goals – but were never able to score the equalizer.

Standout rookie Kevin Crowley led the Wings with four goals and seven points, while Dan Dawson, who finished third in league scoring with 103 points, had a goal and five assists.
