How to bet on Saturday’s NCAA Tournament games

Was that version of North Carolina what we can expect against Baylor? Will Richmond continue its underdog run?

The editors at CBS already have enough footage for a “One Shining Moment” video montage just from Thursday’s games. Kentucky lost outright, which was a big win for many sportsbooks’ futures tickets, and Gonzaga didn’t cover a 22.5-point spread, another victory for most houses.

Here’s a look at Saturday’s games, plus some other items scribbled in the notebook.

12:10 p.m./CBS - Baylor (-5.5) vs. North Carolina (149)

Both teams rolled in their opening game, which was expected from Baylor, but not so much Carolina. The Tar Heels had 29 assists on 34 made baskets. Whew. Saw a Carolina money line of +190. Last five against the spread: Baylor 3-2, North Carolina 4-1. Pick: North Carolina with the points.

2:40 p.m./CBS - Kansas (-10.5) vs. Creighton (137.5)

Creighton is 330th in three-point shooting at 30.3%. Kansas is 23rd in defending the three (29.9%). The Blue Jays almost pulled an upset at Kansas last season, before losing 73-72. Only one of their current starters, Ryan Kalkbrenner, played in that game. Stay away from the overs. Last five ATS: Kansas 5-0, Creighton 4-1.

5:15 p.m./CBS - Tennessee (-5.5) vs. Michigan (136)

Michigan was able to get by Colorado State without point guard DeVante’ Jones (concussion). That won’t be so easy against a Tennessee defense 22nd in points allowed (62.6) and 20th in most turnovers forced (15.9). Check Jones’ status before taking the ‘dogs here. Last five ATS: Tennessee 4-1, Michigan 3-2.

6:10 p.m./TNT - Providence (-2.5) vs. Richmond (134)

Richmond has been the underdog in each of its last four games and won them all outright. During the regular season, they were 1-5 outright when they were underdogs. Last five ATS: Providence 3-2, Richmond 4-1.

7:10 p.m./TBS - UCLA (-2.5) vs. St. Mary’s (126.5)

St. Mary’s played four games against power-5 schools, allowing 59 to Notre Dame, 50 to Oregon, 61 to Wisconsin, and 53 to Indiana on Thursday. Last five ATS: 2-3, Saint Mary’s 3-2. The pick: Under 126.5 points.

7:45 p.m./CBS - Murray State (8) vs. St. Peter’s (130)

St. Peter’s has won and covered its last eight games, including Thursday’s shocker in overtime against Kentucky. Who knew Cinderella was in Jersey City? Last five ATS: Murray State 2-3, Saint Peter’s 5-0.

8:40 p.m./TNT - Arkansas (-6.5) vs. New Mexico State (139.5)

After watching New Mexico State star Teddy Allen score 37 points in a moderate upset (also 6.5 points) of his team, Connecticut coach Danny Hurley observed, “the types of shots that he hits, some of them were unguardable.” Last five ATS: Arkansas 2-3, New Mexico St. 4-1. Pick: Over 139.5 points.

9:40 p.m./TBS - Gonzaga (-10.5) vs. Memphis (154)

Should be a fascinating matchup of freshman centers. Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren (7-0, 195) stuffs the stat sheet, but needs to hit the weight room. Memphis’s Jalen Duren (6-11, 250), who played his first two high school years at Roman Catholic, is still developing offensively. Last five ATS: Gonzaga 2-3, Memphis 4-1. The pick: This will be Gonzaga’s toughest game until the Final Four. Memphis to cover (with a look for now at the +500 ML).

Thursday’s picks

Went 3-2: Losers were Gonzaga (-23.5) and Vermont money. Winners were under Boise State team total (65.5), North Carolina (-3.5), and Akron (+14).

This & That

NBA: FanDuel moved Golden State’s championship odds from +460 to +650 on the news that Steph Curry will be out until mid-April. The injury shouldn’t affect the Warriors preseason win total of 47.5. They are 47-23 with 12 games remaining. Keyword: SHOULDN’T.

MBB: As of Thursday, the money wagered on Kentucky to win the championship was 8% at BetMGM, 9% at Caesars. Thanks for playing.

NBA: The Pistons are on a 12-0-1 against the spread since mid-February. They next play at Cleveland on Saturday.

WBB: DraftKings had a buzzer-beater prop for the women’s NCAA Tournament, which it defined as a “shot to give the team the win as time expires, leaving no opportunity for opposition to inbound ball.” Odds of it happening on Friday (16 games), +600. Odds for first round (32 games) +300. Odds for remainder of tournament (63 games) +150.

GLF: In FanDuel’s futures odds for the four majors, Jon Rahm is the favorite for each. He’s +850 for the Masters, +1000 for the PGA and U.S. Open, +900 for the British Open. Brooks Koepka at 20-1 for the Masters. Huh.
