The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday identified the person killed in a police shooting Tuesday in Atlantic City, as well as the officer who fired the shots.

Atlantic City resident Donald Gardner, 52, also known as Donald Capriotti, was killed in the shooting Tuesday, the Attorney General’s Office said. Officer Robert Reynolds of the Atlantic City Police Department fired the fatal shots in the incident, which began just before 3 p.m. on the 100 block of North Florida Avenue as police were executing a search warrant.

Two other officers were also struck by gunfire during the shooting, though Reynolds was not one of them, the office said in a statement. The injured officers, whom the office did not identify, were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. One officer suffered life-threatening injuries, police said Tuesday.

According to the Atlantic City Police Benevolent Association Local 24, Sgt. Christian Ivanov was critically injured in the incident, and remains in serious but stable condition.

The other wounded officer has been released from the hospital, according to the association.

An investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains ongoing, the New Jersey Attorney General said. Additional information was not immediately available.
