Lions head coach Dan Campbell recalls being spit at in Philly during his playing days
The Eagles will host the Detroit Lions next week on Sunday Night Football, and head coach Dan Campbell has fond memories of Philly during his playing days.
Speaking on Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket Tuesday, Campbell called Philadelphia “electric” and “a great place to play,” recalling the hostile atmosphere he faced at Veterans Stadium during the late 1990s and early 2000s, when he played as a tight end for the New York Giants.
“Had batteries thrown at us, spit on, it’s just the classic stuff. It’s probably the most hostile place to play,” Campbell said. “Going into the stadium, leaving it, during the game. Things have backed off a lot now since back in the day, like some of these things you can’t do anymore.”

President Trump gives Nick Sirianni a shoutout on ESPN
Two days after appearing on Fox during an NFL game, President Donald Trump called into ESPN Tuesday to speak with Pat McAfee.
Early in the wide-ranging call, which covered everything from golf to the potential end of the government shutdown, Trump gave Birds head coach Nick Sirianni a shoutout when asked which NFL coaches could become successful politicians.
"We had the great Philadelphia team here [at the White House]," Trump said. "He's some great coach, too, by the way ... he's great."

Nick Sirianni's impressive numbers
With Monday’s 10-7 win over the Green Bay Packers, the Eagles moved to 7-2 and are the top seed in the NFC. They are 7-2 or better through nine games for the fourth consecutive season, the longest such streak in team history.
Here are some other notable numbers from the win courtesy of the Eagles:
According to Elias Sports Bureau, Nick Sirianni became the fifth coach in NFL history — and first in the Super Bowl era — to start 7-2 or better in four of their first five seasons. The others — Paul Brown, Guy Chamberlin, George Halas and Don Shula — are all Hall of Famers.
Sirianni, who is 55-22, moved past George Allen for the second-best winning percentage (.714) by a head coach in the Super Bowl era. Sirianni trails only John Madden (.759).
The Eagles improved to 5-0 under Sirianni after the bye week. Since 2021, only three other NFL teams have gone unbeaten after their bye weeks: Baltimore (6-0), Buffalo (5-0) and Pittsburgh (5-0).
Sirianni also improved to 10-0 against NFC North teams. That streak will get put to the test Sunday vs. the visiting Detroit Lions.
Jalyx Hunt has sacks in consecutive games for the first time in his young NFL career.
Braden Mann’s 66-yard punt in the second quarter gave him a career-high nine punts of 60-plus yards this season — the most by an Eagles punter since 2000.
Brandon Graham, at 37 years and 221 days, became the oldest Eagles defensive player in the Super Bowl era to appear in a game. Graham is the oldest Eagle overall to see action with the team since Jason Peters (38 years, 319 days) in December of 2020 at Green Bay.
How would Vic Fangio deploy his new-look defensive front? We got our first look Monday night in Green Bay. Here are some notes and thoughts from the snap counts and usage:
Jaelan Phillips didn’t need extra time to get up to speed. Phillips led all edge rushers with 53 of a possible 68 snaps (78%). He managed seven pressures on 36 pass rushes, according to Next Gen Stats, his most pressures in a game since the final game of the 2022 season.
Nolan Smith, meanwhile, appears to need a bit of ramp-up. Smith, returning from a triceps injury that had him sidelined for the previous five games, played 19 snaps (28%). Behind Phillips, it was Jalyx Hunt (43 snaps, 63%) that saw the most work on the edge.
With Phillips and Smith back, and Brandon Graham (10 snaps, 15%) playing his first game since coming out of retirement, Josh Uche was the odd man out. He played solely on special teams.
Jihaad Campbell played 34 snaps, but 10 of them came on the defensive line. The edge rotation seems to be Phillips, Hunt, Smith, Campbell, and Graham. Those rushers, combined with the interior linemen, pressured Jordan Love on 17 of his 42 dropbacks (40.5%), according to Next Gen, the second-highest pressure rate he has faced this season.
Campbell played 22 snaps from the box as a linebacker while Nakobe Dean played 44 snaps, 42 of them in the box.
Adoree’ Jackson started opposite Quinyon Mitchell at outside corner and played 56 snaps. It remains to be seen how the Eagles will allot roster spots and playing time at corner moving forward, but Jackson held up well.
Saquon Barkley’s 70% usage (44 of a possible 63 snaps) was his lowest in a game this season that he started and finished.
Lane Johnson’s ankle injury limited him to just 37 snaps.
Eagles announcer Merrill Reese wasn't a fan of Nick Sirianni's late-game decision
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni defended his call to go for it on fourth down on the Packers' 35-yard-line with just :33 seconds remaining in the game.
"I stand put on that decision, especially being up three because you go up six, they are still going to need a touchdown," Sirianni told reporters after the game.
Unfortunately, the Eagles failed to convert, giving the Packers excellent field position and a shot at a game-tying, 64-yard field goal. Thankfully, Packers kicker Brandon McManus didn't come to the uprights, securing the Birds' 10-7 victory.
Fortunately for Birds fans, Johnson's returned late in the fourth quarter and finished out the game, helping the Eagles secure a 10-7 victory against the Green Bay Packers.
After the game, Johnson took to social media to celebrate his return to the game with a meme featuring The Undertaker, which hopefully means he'll be ready to go when the Eagles take on the Detroit Lions next week.
New Eagles defender Jaelan Phillips made an immediate impact
Jaelan Phillips has played football since he was 7 years old. He briefly retired from the game seven years ago, sat out a transfer season in college, and came back from back-to-back season-ending injuries in the NFL.
He’s had plenty of reason to get emotional ahead of kickoff, which is why the 26-year-old outside linebacker knew that he was in his feelings before playing in his first game for the Eagles at historic Lambeau Field.
“It was the first time in a while that I’ve gotten a little emotional before a game,” Phillips said.

Troy Aikman has high praise for Jalen Hurts, criticizes Birds offense
Troy Aikman sees a lot of himself in Jalen Hurts.
Hurts and the Eagles had yet another ugly win Monday night, eking by the Green Bay Packers 10-7. Hurts threw for 183 yards and a touchdown in the win — the fifth game this season the Super Bowl MVP hasn't eclipsed 200 yards passing.
Yet, the Eagles are 5-0 in those games, and Hurts' 36-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith in the fourth quarter ended up being the difference in the game.

Quinta Brunson's double bird
Many expected fireworks with the Eagles facing the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. The clash between the NFC’s best turned into a defensive standoff, but the Birds put the game to bed with a 10-7 win to maintain their grip on the top spot in the NFC.
As the punters on both teams made their case for MVP, retired NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning found plenty of excitement dissecting the game with some Philly celebrities on the ManningCast, which aired on ESPN2.
Quinta Brunson, the star of the hit Philly-based sitcom Abbott Elementary, brought some much needed life to a difficult-to-watch broadcast. The West Philly native came out firing with her first moments of screen time.

After holding on to defeat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau, the Birds will return home to host the Detroit Lions on NBC's Sunday Night Football.
