Eagles get more time to work on Goedert deal

It is officially the new NFL league year, but Dallas Goedert is not yet a free agent.

A league source confirmed a report from The Athletic that the void date on Goedert’s contract has been pushed back to Friday. The void date was initially set to go into effect at midnight as Tuesday turned to Wednesday, which would have triggered about $20.5 million in dead money against the Eagles’ cap.

According to Over the Cap, the Eagles can't technically push back the void date but are instead using the extra time to come to terms on a new deal before they're forced to release him.

Eagles haven't shopped Jalen Carter: ESPN

After signing Jordan Davis to a contract extension, are the Eagles shopping around fellow defensive tackle Jalen Carter?

Not according to Adam Schefter.

"The Eagles never have shopped him. Never have shopped him," ESPN's NFL insider said on The Pat McAfee Show Wednesday. "That doesn't mean they can't in the future, but they haven't made him available."

The Eagles' newest cornerback is a bit of a trash talker

New Eagles cornerback Riq Woolen, 27, will bring energy to a young secondary that also features third-year starters Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

Like Mitchell, Woolen likes to talk some trash, although he has been known to get carried away at times, drawing three taunting penalties last season.

One particularly costly instance was in the third quarter of the NFC championship game against the Los Angeles Rams. Woolen was flagged for taunting when he trash-talked the Rams bench after forcing them to punt with a pass breakup on third down. Worse, he allowed Rams wide receiver Puka Nakua, who was the intended receiver on the previous pass breakup, to score on the very next play.

The clear messages being sent by Howie Roseman

Howie Roseman hasn’t spoken with the media lately, but he’s sent clear messages from the newly christened Jefferson Health Training Complex as the NFL’s legal tampering window closes after three days and the league year officially begins.

First, he wanted little part of the inflated edge-rusher market, especially if the players in question are other teams’ damaged goods.

Second, he expects his draft-day investments at the position to begin to pay dividends.

NFL could add a Wednesday game before Thanksgiving

In a never-ending quest to add national broadcast windows, the NFL is considering holding a Wednesday night game the day before Thanksgiving, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The league began playing games on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, in 2023, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in December that could expand to two games.

If the NFL expands to the day before Thanksgiving, there would be seven days of games during a nine-day stretch around the holidays.

Eagles need an edge rusher, but a trade for Maxx Crosby remains unlikely

Why might the Eagles be hesitant to trade for Maxx Crosby after the Las Vegas Raiders’ deal with the Baltimore Ravens fell through? Well, perhaps for the same reasons why they didn’t trade for him in the first place.

Two first-round picks was a steep price for a 29-year-old edge rusher who ended his last two seasons with surgeries. If the Raiders are still looking for the same return for Crosby, it seems unlikely that the Eagles would be willing to meet their asking price.

Even if that price comes down, would the Eagles have confidence in Crosby’s long-term health? Crosby would soon be due for a contract restructure given that he only has guaranteed money left in 2026, so if his long-term prognosis is poor, why would a team sacrifice premium draft capital for potentially a single year of a player, even one of his caliber?

Eagles add some defensive help with Super Bowl champ Riq Woolen

The Eagles are making a short-term yet significant investment at their vacant outside cornerback spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell, agreeing to terms with former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen on a one-year deal, a league source confirmed to The Inquirer.

The deal is reportedly worth up to $15 million, according to ESPN.

Woolen, who turns 27 in May, was one of the top pending free-agent cornerbacks set to become available at the start of the new league year on Wednesday. He spent the last four seasons with the Super Bowl-winning Seahawks, the team that drafted him in the fifth round out of the University of Texas-San Antonio in 2022.

Dallas Goedert's uncertain future as Birds agree to terms with two tight ends

Why did the Eagles’ running game take a step back in 2025? A banged-up offensive line was a big issue, but they also did not get good enough blocking from the tight end position.

On the second day of the NFL’s legal tampering period, Howie Roseman made a move to try to rectify that.

The Eagles — an NFL source confirmed an NFL Network report — agreed to a one-year deal with Johnny Mundt, who played last season with Jacksonville after five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and three with the Minnesota Vikings.

12 Eagles free agents remain unsigned, including three starters

After two days of unofficial NFL free agency, signings will become official at 4 p.m. Wednesday, the start of the league's calendar year.

Several Eagles free agents remain unsigned, including three starters — tight end Dallas Goedert, cornerback Adoree’ Jackson and punter Braden Mann.

Here are the remaining Eagles free agents who have yet to sign elsewhere:

Eagles still have holes to fill on defense

By adding former Seattle Seahawks corner back Riq Woolen, the Eagles fill a need in their secondary, as former starting outside cornerback Adoree’ Jackson was set to become a free agent. Last season, Cooper DeJean played outside cornerback in base defense, then moved to the slot in nickel packages with Jackson on the outside. Now, with Woolen in the equation, DeJean could play nickel full-time, or even slot in at safety in base, a role Vic Fangio had tinkered with last summer.

The Eagles have other needs to address on the back end, most notably a starting safety after Reed Blankenship reportedly agreed to a three-year, $24.75 million deal with the Houston Texans.

The defense also has a need at edge rusher, with Jaelan Phillips reportedly departing for the Carolina Panthers on a four-year, $120 million contract.

Latest on Ravens nixing blockbuster trade for Maxx Crosby

The blockbuster trade sending star pash rusher Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens is off — and the fallout from that reversal could have a ripple effect throughout the NFL on the eve of the new league year.

As of now, the Raiders plan to honor their agreements to the free agents they've made deals with and don't plan to trade Crosby on a discount to another team, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

The Raiders said Tuesday night that Baltimore backed out of the trade that was supposed to send Crosby to the Ravens for two first-round draft picks. The deal was agreed to last Friday but couldn’t be finalized until Wednesday.
