Amy Winehouse, 24, who was rushed to a London hospital after collapsing at home on June 16, must quit drugs and cigarettes or risk losing her voice - or her life - her father told the Sunday Mirror this weekend.

Amy Winehouse

, 24, who was rushed to a London hospital after collapsing at home on June 16, must quit drugs and cigarettes or risk losing her voice - or her life - her father told the Sunday Mirror this weekend.

"With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes, her lungs are all gunked up,"

Mitch Winehouse

said. "The doctors have said that if she had continued the way she was going she could have ended up an invalid."

Mitch told the Mirror that Amy had been diagnosed with emphysema. "There are nodules around the chest," he said. "She's got 70 percent lung capacity."

But in an interview Monday with BBC Radio 1, Mitch clarified - and qualified - his earlier claim.

"Amy really hasn't got emphysema. There's traces of emphysema," he said.

All in all, Mitch seems optimistic. "[Amy is] smothered in nicotine patches," Mitch said. "She's responding brilliantly to treatment. She's actually flourishing."A passage to India for Sly

Nixon strikes back

Cynthia Nixon

denies a New York Post report that she's had breast enhancement surgery, says the New York Daily News.

"We got a call from [The Post] asking if I'd had breast augmentation, and my publicist laughed at them and said, 'No, of course not.' But they printed it anyway," Nixon said. "If I was going to get a boob job, wouldn't it make sense that I'd get it before

Sex and the City

?"

So how could the Post get it wrong?

"I was at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital for my 'three-monthly' checkup," said Nixon, who is a breast cancer survivor.

"I was in the Oncology Department. I guess they think that means 'plastic surgery.' "

Maybe U.S. authorities really want to hurt

His managers said yesterday that the visa denial was because he is awaiting trial for imprisoning a man at his London home.

A sedate baby shower

Minnie Driver

, it seems, adores berry cake from Sweet Lady Jane. That's one of the many fun facts one could pick up at Minnie's baby shower Saturday at a friend's house in Malibu.

The house was decorated with pink and white peonies. Ms. Driver continues to deprive the gossip-hungry masses the name of the baby's dad.

Newbies take the blood oath

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 105 lucky - oh-so-lucky! - actors, directors, producers, screenwriters and so forth (though, I imagine not best boys) to join their exalted ranks.

The newbies include such big names as best screenplay Oscar nominee

Sacha Baron Cohen,

best actress Oscar-winner

Marion Cotillard

(

La Vie En Rose

), supporting-actress nominee

Ruby Dee

, along with

Jet Li

,

Josh Brolin

,

Allison Janney

and

Ray Winstone.

The academy is a small club (how else can everyone fit in the tree house?). It has fewer than 6,000 voting members.

Pass the soap . . .

"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard," says

High School Musical

sweetie

Vanessa Hudgens

about rumors that her boyfriend and costar

Zac Efron

prefers not to shower. Or bathe. Ever.

"Whoever came up with that is completely idiotic," Vanessa tells Newsweek. "He showers! He showers! Believe me, he does."
