A 22-year-old mother from Philadelphia has died days after her 3-year-old daughter as a result of injuries sustained from a house fire in Kensington.
6abc and NBC10 first reported the woman’s death this week.
The fire, which broke out around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday in a rowhouse on D Street near Ontario Street, appeared to have been caused by a lithium e-bike battery, according to fire department officials. Firefighters had to rescue the 3-year-old and an adult from the back room of the house when they arrived on Sunday.
The girl was pronounced dead from her injuries at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
Another adult and child living in the home were able to escape.
The Philadelphia Fire Department and the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Officials told 6abc there were no smoke detectors inside the home.
