Freeway, Andra Day, Rosario Dawson to bring 'Truth To Power' to the DNC

Rock The Vote! art-music-activism event happening at Spring Garden Street pop-up.

The great majority of marquee music events coming to Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention next week - from Snoop Dogg at the Electric Factory to Lady Gaga and  Lenny Kravitz at the BB&T Pavilion in Camden - are private invite-only affairs.

That's not the case with Truth To Power,  the Rock The Vote sponsored pop-up multi-media extravaganza that kicks off Monday in a customized space at 990 Spring Garden Street. Along with rooms full of eye-popping art from the likes of Shepard Fairey and Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, the open-to-the-public event will include a full schedule of acoustic acts and DJs. Actress - and ardent Bernie Sanders supporter - Rosario Dawson will host My Peoples, a talk show format program with activists, artists and actors that will be live streamed at mypeoples.tv.

The Monday night opening party will feature rising old school soul star Andra Day, Philadelphia rapper Freeway, DJ Aktive, Jabair and Soulection. More guests are expected to be announced, and a larger Truth To Power / Rock The Vote! blowout is scheduled for Wednesday night at the Fillmore, with details to come.

Truth To Power is Rock The Vote's campaign "to energize and mobilize young people in the 2016 general election." Its self-described mission is to "to elevate and illuminate the most pressing issues facing young people in the United States today — from ending mass incarceration and stopping police violence to providing access to jobs and a living wage, building a fair immigration system to protecting reproductive freedom, making higher education affordable and defending our right to vote."
