Dog hanged in N. Phila. playground
A dog was found hanged in a Philadelphia playground this morning.
UPDATE: The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction now stands at $3500. The Humane Society of the United States has offered $2,500 in reward money that will be added to the $1000 offered by the Pennsylvania SPCA. Also, the PSPCA says it has posthumously "named the victim of this horrible crime" Flora.
A dog was found hanged in a North Philadelphia playground this morning.
The Pennsylvania SPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for the hanging death of a dog in the Barrett Playground on West Duncannon Avenue just off North 8th Street in Olney.
The female, one-year-old, pit-bull mix had been suspended from playground equipment and was found by a Humane Law Enforcement officer. Officials say they believe the dog died in the early morning hours today.
The PSPCA received a phone call this morning from someone reporting the dead dog, said PSPCA spokeswoman Liz Williamson. She said the cause of death was hanging, but that a necropsy is taking place to determine if the dog suffered other injuries.
In 2008 the battered body of a dead pit bull, stoned with chunks of concrete and bricks, was found hanging from a railing at an abandoned school at 27th and Huntingdon Sts.
