A horse died after it was struck by a car overnight on the Atlantic City Expressway.

New Jersey State Police said a car hit the horse near the right shoulder of the road near mile marker 32 in Winslow Township about 3 a.m. Monday.

That horse died from injuries suffered in the one-car crash. Another horse was rescued unharmed.

The owner of the animals has been located, police said, but it remains unknown how the horses escaped onto the expressway.
