Friday, Aug. 26 is opening night of Frida Cantina, what promises to be a polished but lively cantina at 1000 Wolf St., the former Gavone's and Priori's at 10th and Wolf Streets in South Philadelphia. It's also across the intersection from Los Gallos, a taqueria, and down the block from the destination Bomb-Bomb Bar-B-Que Grill.

Frida - named after the artist Frida Kahlo - is a tribute to Mexico by Raúl Castro, who owns the Washington Avenue Mexican restaurant Plaza Garibaldi. Colorful decor includes many prints of the unibrowed icon.

It's also Castro's debut in the cocktail world. The tequila and mezcal list will top 60 varieties, and there is a rotating draft list of Mexican and other craft beer.

Menu is below.  Cocktail menu is forthcoming.
