Meltkraft: Grilled cheese for Rittenhouse

Eran Wajswol, Valley Shepherd's owner, has a deal at 46 S. 17th St., a storefront between the Vitamin Shoppe and Jimmy John's across from Liberty Place. The location was a check-cashing agency.

Valley Shepherd Creamery, the vaunted North Jersey creamery, is fixing to open a second Philadelphia location of Meltkraft, its grilled-cheese shop.

Eran Wajswol, Valley Shepherd's owner, has a deal at 46 S. 17th St., a storefront between the Vitamin Shoppe and Jimmy John's across from Liberty Place. The location was a check-cashing agency.

Wajswol is meeting tonight with the Center City Residents' Association before going before the zoning hearing board. (Doubtless, he'll be grilled.)

Valley Shepherd opened its first Philadelphia Meltkraft in March 2013 at Reading Terminal Market, where it makes its own cheese from its milk.

Wajswol said the cheesemaking would continue at Reading Terminal, with the product sent daily to the new shop, which will be on two levels, about six blocks away.
