I'm hearing that James Beard-winning chef Michael Solomonov and business partner Steve Cook — whose restaurant collection includes Zahav, Abe Fisher, Dizengoff, The Rooster, and Goldie (plus shares of Federal Donuts) — are about to get into the baking realm with a cafe in Washington Square West.
They've signed a lease for a storefront on the 1200 block of Sansom Street that makes up the rear of the new mixed-use building at 1213 Walnut St., just a few blocks from much of the empire.
The one-story glass building, next door to famed Center City watering hole Fergie's Pub, includes an outdoor space that's partly under cover.
Name and opening date are under wraps.
The newest Federal Donuts opens at 7 a.m. Oct. 5 at Sixth and South Streets.
The duo also are opening a Zahav spinoff at Thompson and Howard Streets in Kensington, as I reported last month.
