On the Boards

Michael L. Magerman, president and chief executive officer of Quickie Manufacturing Corp., Cinnaminson, has been elected vice chairman/chairman elect of the board of the International Housewares Association, a trade association.

The following were elected to the board of trustees at La Salle University: 

Frank G. Byrne, president of Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft.

Margaret A. Kane, vice president at Brian Communications in Bryn Mawr.

William R. Sasso, chairman of the board of the Philadelphia law firm Stradley Ronon.

Stephen T. Zarrilli, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Safeguard Scientifics Inc., Wayne.

Historic RittenhouseTown, a nonprofit educational group, elected the following officers and members: 

Christine Rittenhouse Russell, owner of Inovera and a member of the Rittenhouse family, is vice president.

Thomas P. Witt, a member of the law firm of Cozen O'Connor in the business law department, is treasurer.

J.M. Duffin, an archivist at the University of Pennsylvania, is secretary.

Members include Jay Gemberling-Johnson, executive director of Urban Resources Development Corp., Germantown; James Nelson Kise, consulting principal at KSK and member of the Rittenhouse family; Stephen L. Kurtz, owner of Kurtz Roofing; Anna Coxe Toogood, a historian at Independence National Historic Park; Kenneth Jacobs, visiting assistant professor, College of Architecture and the Built Environment at Philadelphia University; Peter Lapham, retired former partner at Urban Partners; Myles Pettengill Jr., president of Archway Builders L.L.C.; Thomas C. Purple, vice president, sales, graphic communications division of Unisource Worldwide; Robert Z. Shuman Jr., a partner at MGA Partners, Architects; and associate professor, Department of Architecture, at Temple University; and Mark H. Tuttle, president of PMT Ltd.

Kenneth E. Hartman, former president of Drexel eLearning at Drexel University, has been elected to a three-year term on the executive board of the Sloan Consortium, a national nonprofit education organization.

Susan C. Stein has been appointed to the Dean's Advisory Council of the Drexel University School of Public Health. She is CEO of Connexion Healthcare.

Rosetta Genomics Ltd., a biotechnology company in Israel that has a laboratory in Philadelphia, appointed Yitzhak Peterburg to its board. He had been senior vice president, head of global branded products at Teva Pharmaceuticals.

Harcum College, Bryn Mawr, named Lisa Yang and Karl A. Thallner to its board of trustees. Yang is a retired investment banker/strategic planner who has worked at Investec/PMG Capital, the Philadelphia Stock Exchange and Lehman Bros. Thallner is an attorney and partner at Reed Smith and expert in health care regulatory law.

The Abington School District Educational Foundation has elected Douglas S. Callantine and Byron L. Goldstein to its board. Callantine retired from Grosvenor Fund Management in 2011 as its president and CEO of the United States operations. Goldstein is the community-relations specialist for the Abington School District and is the president of Goldstein Marketing/Communication of Glenside.

John C. Gillespie, shareholder and co-chair of the administrative, state and local government departments at Parker McCay, Mount Laurel, has been elected regional vice president of the International Municipal Lawyers Association.

         The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Philadelphia, named the following officers and board members:

Howard L. Meyers, a senior partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius L.L.P., is chair.

Julia B. Fisher, managing director at JP Morgan Private Bank in Philadelphia, and Kenneth G. Wood, senior vice president in the global commercial bank at Bank of America, are vice chairs.

Members include: Ethne Clark, editor-in-chief of Organic Gardening magazine; Thomas J. Doll, chief operating officer at Subaru of America; Linda Galante, a member of the board of directors at Stradley Ronon; Meryl Levitz, president of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp.; and Patricia L. Smith, senior policy adviser at the Reinvestment Fund.

Carmela Elco has been elected to the board of the Retirement Advisory Council. She is president of Resources for Retirement, a division of National Penn Capital Advisors Inc., Boyertown.

Alan Wong, an associate in the business and finance department at Kleinbard Bell & Brecker L.L.P., joined the Bethesda Project's Young Professional Advisory Board.
