Clarke's 'lemon' bill passes

City Councilman Darrell

Clarke yesterday won passage of legislation he wrote to close a loophole in the state's Lemon Law for car sales.

The state law covers new cars but does little to protect buyers of used cars, Clarke said.

The legislation, if signed into law by Mayor Nutter, would require used-car dealers to fix any "undisclosed major structural defect" within 10 days of a complaint from a buyer or refund the cost of the car.

Members of the Philadelphia Soul will take part in a charity block party on Father's Day to benefit the family of slain Police Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski.

The block party will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday outside Bonks Bar and Grille, on Richmond Street near Schiller. Soul players and dance-team members are expected to be on hand for the event, which will cost $30 for adults and $10 for kids over the age of 10.

'Earthquake' game & cookout

Southwest Philadelphia community activist Paul "Earthquake" Moore will hold his annual "Start Snitchin' " basketball game/cookout tomorrow in the gym of the New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 7001 Woodland Ave, Southwest Philadelphia.

The event will include a good-spirited "Fathers Against Violence vs. Start Snitchin' " basketball game. Fathers are encouraged to bring their families out to participate and mingle with neighbors. The event is free, but donations will be accepted.

The Mummers' third annual "Ride for the Cure," to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, will be held tomorrow.

The ride will begin at the Mummers Museum at 2nd Street and Washington Avenue and end at Angry Jack's, in North Wildwood. Besides collecting money for cancer research, the riders will be gathering toys for children at St. Christopher's.

More red-light cameras

The Philadelphia Parking Authority will soon expand its red- light-camera program by placing new cameras at three intersections - 58th and Walnut streets, Broad Street and Hunting Park Avenue, and 9th Street and Roosevelt Boulevard.

"We are doing everything possible to create a safe environment for the city's drivers and pedestrians," said Councilman Darrell Clarke. "The evidence shows that this program makes traversing Philadelphia's streets less dangerous."
