NBC10: Fourth of July TV coverage decisions made by network
The decision to pull away from coverage of Philadelphia's Independence Day celebration was made by network, not local, officials, NBC10 says.
The decision to schedule coverage from New York during Philadelphia's Independence Day celebration was made by network, not local, officials, NBC10 says.
TV viewers took to social media Monday to complain that the local NBC affiliate's coverage of Philadelphia's festivities fell short of their expectations.
While the Philly Pops concert was cancelled because of rain, NBC10 was never scheduled to air that part of the Wawa Welcome America! festival.
The network always planned to show the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular in New York from 8 to 10 p.m., said Ric Harris, NBC10's general manager. It was a network decision, he said.
"Even if there was no rain, we would have been with the network," he said.
Harris said the station had not received complaints about the coverage. Plans for next year's coverage have not been set and could change and include the local concert, he said.
