Texas suspect arrested in Phila.

A Texas man accused of stomping his infant son to death has turned himself in to Philadelphia police.

A Texas man accused of stomping his infant son to death has turned himself in to Philadelphia police.

Travis Mullis, 21, of Alvin, Texas, walked into Police Headquarters about 3 p.m. Friday, said Sgt. Ray Evers, a police spokesman.

Police in Texas said Mullis had told Philadelphia police that he intentionally killed the baby, identified as either Elijah or Alijah Mullis, by stomping on the infant's head Tuesday.

After interviewing Mullis, detectives contacted police in Galveston, Texas.

Authorities there said that about 9 a.m. Tuesday, an older couple looking for wildlife in a park area near a seawall found the body of an infant wearing only a diaper. The child's car seat was found nearby.

"Later that day we got word a woman was calling hospitals about a 3-month-old baby," Galveston Police Lt. Jorge Trevino said.

The mother identified the dead infant as her son from photos, Trevino said. She told police that she had last seen the baby when he left with his father, Mullis.

Galveston police are not saying why they think the child was killed, Trevino said. He said that the couple had fought before Mullis left with the baby, but that "the fight was no longer an issue."

Trevino said that the couple shared a trailer home with friends, and that he did not know if the two were married.

Galveston police were waiting for DNA results to confirm the baby's identity, he said.

While officers were at the trailer in Alvin investigating the killing, police said, an 8-year-old girl told them that Mullis had tried to molest her. Police issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of enticing a child.

Trevino said he did not know much about how Mullis had made his way to Philadelphia.

"He had help along the way," Trevino said.

Mullis was held on a fugitive warrant while awaiting extradition to Texas. Bail was set at $1 million. When he returns to Texas he will face capital murder charges.
