Dozens of Pennsauken students sent home sick

More than 50 students at Pennsauken Intermediate School were sent home this week when they started experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Pennsauken Superintendent James Chapman said the district is following Department of Health recommendations. The school administration sent a letter home to parents Thursday urging them to keep the ill students home for at least seven days or until the symptoms abate.

"Each night we are cleaning and sanitizing the building," Chapman said, adding that additional staff has been sent to the Park Avenue school to keep it sanitized.

Chapman said closing the school is not under consideration.

"We're monitoring it closely," he said.
