Eleven students won't forget their trip this morning to Sussex Tech High School in Delaware anytime soon.

As their school bus made its way on rural Cokesbury Road just south of Route 404 in Seaford about 8 a.m., it hit a deer.

But instead of landing on the roadway, the deer flew up on impact and smashed through the windshield, landing five seats back in the middle aisle, Delaware State Police said.

The deer, a doe, died and two girls suffered minor injuries, police said.

The 76-year-old male bus driver escaped harm,

"This was certainly a very dangerous and disturbing incident for anyone to have to watch, let alone schoolchildren," Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh, a state police spokesman, said in statement. "We are just very lucky no one was more seriously hurt."

The injured girls were treated at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and the other students were released to their parents.

No charges have been filed.
