A West Chester University student was charged Thursday with the rape of a female student at a campus fraternity house.

Mauricio Sanjuan Martinez, 19, was arrested on campus Thursday. He was charged with three counts of rape and other counts.

The alleged assault occurred Sunday around 4 a.m. at the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity house, said police. The victim, a 19-year-old woman, reported the rape to West Chester police.

About 50 people were at the South Walnut Street house Sunday for a party involving alcohol, according to police. The victim attended the party and may have known Sanjuan Martinez.

This is at least the sixth sexual assault the university has reported to police or campus safety this school year.

The university's judicial affairs office will also look into the case, said Pam Sheridan, executive director of the university's Office of Communications.

Sheridan said she does not think sexual assaults on campus have increased.

The Pennsylvania State University chapter of Kappa Delta Rho was suspended last month over a private Facebook page on which fraternity members allegedly posted photos of unconscious or sleeping nude women. The university has established a task force to review its Greek system.

Sanjuan Martinez, of Gettysburg, is being held at the Chester County Prison on $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for April 16, according to court documents.
