Pennsylvania College of Optometry yesterday announced that it is becoming a university and changing its name.

Its new name will be Salus University. Salus is the Latin word for "health and well-being." The school will continue to offer optometric programs and degrees, a full audiology program, and a physician-assistant program.

The school says the new name, unveiled yesterday at the Elkins Park campus, reflects a strengthened curriculum and new programs. - Susan Snyder
