Groundbreaking for skate park

KING OF PRUSSIA Public groundbreaking for the Daniel T. Kellett Memorial Skate Park was scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Upper Merion Township Building.

Named after the son of Joan Kellett, a major contributor to the effort, the park will be the result of four years of fund-raisers and is designed to give skateboarders an alternative to skating in the streets and on private property.

Daniel Kellett was a graduate of Upper Merion High School and a decorated Willistown police officer. He was killed in 1990 in a motorcycle accident while off duty.

"I just want to keep the momentum going because it has been some years since this project was initiated, and any funds that can still be generated would contribute to this aesthetics of the park," Joan Kellett said in a statement.

For more information or to sponsor a brick at the park, contact Detective Les Glauner at the Upper Merion Police Department at lglauner@umtownship.org.
