It's no great secret that Morning Joe hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough aren't the biggest fans of White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway.
In fact, just last week Brzezinski went after CNN and host Andersoon Cooper for allowing Conway on the network. Brzezinski, who has banned Conway from appearing on her own show, called the Trump spokeswoman "a repeated liar" and dubbed the CNN segment featuring her "politics porn."
But on Monday, the MSNBC hosts claimed that in private conversations during her appearances on Morning Joe during the campaign, Conway complained often about Trump and suggested she was only backing him publicly for the paycheck.
"She would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off, and she would say 'Blech, I need to take a shower,' because she disliked her candidate so much," Brzezinski said.
Scarborough has mostly kept quiet in the past as Brzezinski criticized Conway, but on Monday morning he echoed his co-host's statements, suggesting Conway only took the job with Trump for money.
" 'I'm just doing this for the money, I'll be off this soon,' " Scarborough claims she said, although he added: "I don't know that she ever said 'I'm doing this for the money,' but 'This is just my summer vacation, my summer in Europe. And basically, I'm gonna get through this.' "
Brzezinski quickly jumped in to finish her fiancé's sentence.
" 'But first I have to take a shower, because it feels so dirty to be saying what I'm saying,' " Brzewzinski said. "I guess she's just used to it now."
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Prior to joining President Trump's campaign, Conway worked for a super PAC that backed Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas), and made numerous public appearances bashing then-candidate Trump for his "unpresidential" and "vulgar" language. She also claimed Trump "built a lot of his business on the backs of the little guy," and called on the businessman and reality TV star to release his tax returns.
Conway has been largely lambasted by the media after criticizing news outlets for failing to cover a massacre that never happened and using an appearance on Fox & Friends to promote Ivanka Trump's clothing line. In her most infamous gaffe, she cited "alternative facts" to explain the administration's differing numbers on inauguration attendance.
Conway has mostly been relegated to appearances on Trump-friendly Fox News programs. She showed up again on the network Sunday to critize the negative media coverage Trump often receives.
"It really doesn't help democracy and it doesn't help the body politic because people are looking for the news," Conway told Media Buzz host Howard Kurtz. "They're not looking for conjecture. They don't care that something goes viral and a late-night host gets a couple of laughs out of it. The idea that people are so presumptively negative toward so much that's going on."
Conway also weighed in on Anderson Cooper's viral eye roll, something she said fit the narriative of how hosts often treat members of Trump's administration.
"Possibly sexist, definitely what I call Trumpist," she said, decrying the perceived bias she claims Trump's surrogate receive on television news shows. "Many people who go on TV are treated like house guests, and then when we go on TV, we're not."
