Markelle Fultz signs with Sixers
The first overall pick signed the contract with his mother, Ebony, present.
LAS VEGAS –Markelle Fultz has signed his contract with the 76ers.
The first overall pick did so Saturday with his mother, Ebony, and trainer, Keith Williams, among the people present.
The signing was delayed because Fultz wanted his mother to be in attendance. She was not present while the Sixers competed in the Utah Jazz Summer League from Monday through Thursday in Salt Lake City.
"At only 19 years of age, the sky is the limit for Markelle and we could not be happier to have him join our Sixers family," team president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo said in a statement.
As the No. 1 pick, Fultz is slated to make $5.8 million next season. However, the Sixers can pay him 20 percent more than that and most likely will. Often, teams require draft picks to do a certain amount of community service or play an extra year of summer ball to get the extra 20 percent.
